Meet Wiltshire Pension Fund's Payroll Team

The payroll team manage the payments for over 19,000 pensioners and last year they successfully migrated these pensioner payments to or own in-house payroll system. This migration was a huge success, carried out by our dedicated and experienced payroll team: Geoff, June and Kelly.

Each month the team make a wide range of payments from Death Grants, Refunds, Transfers, Trivial Commutations, Retirement Lump Sums, as well as the monthly pension payments to our pensioners. In March 2025 the team processed £7.68m in monthly payments and £3.96m in Immediate Payments and Lump sums, with details of these payments reported to HMRC, where required.

P60 Statements

This year will be the first time the team are processing and issuing the annual P60 statements, which will be added to the "Your documents" section of the My Wiltshire Pension portal or if opted into paper communications sent via post. These will be ready by the 31^st of May 2025, if you are expecting a P60 and have not received one by this date, please get in touch.

Annual Pension Increase

Your LGPS pension increases each year with inflation, based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for September 2024, which was 1.7%. This increase takes effect on Monday, April 7, 2025. As it applies partway through April, your April payment will include both the old and new rates. You'll see the full increase starting with your May payment.

If your State Pension Age is prior to 6 April 2016 and you have service in the Fund before 6 April 1997 part of your pension will be what is known as a Guaranteed Minimum Pension (GMP) and this increases differently to your main benefits. GMP accrued after 1 April 1988 will be increased by 1.7%. GMP accrued before 1 April 1988 will be increased as part of your state pension so no increase will be applied to this element of your LGPS pension.

Please note: pension increases do not apply to pensions where the member has retired on Ill Health grounds and are under the age of 55 (unless certified by the approving doctor that the member is too ill to return to work). Pension increases will apply to these pensions once the member has reached the age of 55.

What is a P60?

A P60 is a statutory annual statement given to pensioners to inform them of the Taxable Pay, Tax Paid and the last Tax code used for the financial year. This information would have already been communicated to HMRC, and pensioners members may need their P60 for other financial purposes.

What additional information does your P60 show?

In addition to the information stated the P60 confirms the annual pension increase, your new rate of pension for the year and the start date for this increase. It will also show any Lifetime Allowance/Lump Sum Allowance or Lump Sum Death Benefit Allowance you have used under the Fund . This information may be important if you need to prove how much tax they have paid on their pension.

Why might pension payments be lower?

In some cases, the net payment of a pension is lower than the previous year despite the pension increase. This is likely due to a change of tax code which has impacted the amount of tax a member is due to pay. Tax codes are set by HMRC, and Wiltshire Pension Fund cannot change them. All tax code related queries must be queried with the HMRC, quoting the reference number on your Pension Payslip or P60.

What is a LTA% or LSA%

The Lifetime Allowance (LTA%) was the maximum amount you could build up in your pension without paying extra tax, it was abolished in April 2024. The limit was £1,073,100 and was expressed as a percentage used. The Lump Sum Allowance (LSA%) is set by the government at £268,275 and is the maximum amount of tax-free cash lump sum that can be paid to an individual during their lifetime.

What is a LSDBA

The Lump Sum Death Benefit Allowance (LSDBA) is set by the government at £1,073,100 and is the maximum amount of tax-free lump sums that can be paid in life and death to or in respect of an individual.

Why have is there a previous and current employment on my P60?

Last year, we migrated pensioners from Wiltshire Council to our in-house payroll system. As a result, your P60 will show a breakdown of your pension: pre-migration (previous employment) and post-migration (current employment). This does not affect your pension payments; it' was only necessary for administration purposes.

What if I receive more than one payslip each month?

If you receive more than one payslip each month, you'll equally receive the same number of P60s.

All member documents are available on My Wiltshire Pension, the Fund's secure online portal. If you wish to receive paper communications, you must opt- in by contacting us.
